The Kemp Family has experienced several natural disasters including floods and bush fires. Two major floods and numerous bush fires have affected the Kemp family and the houses in which we lived. One bush fire, in January 2002, burnt down our family home 'The Dome'. Whilst this was a sad moment in the Kemp family story, the family was thrown into an unfamiliar situation (having to find somewhere to live whilst rebuilding a new house), the Family looked for positives, and I believe grew stronger as a family after facing this life-changing experience. Below are several images of floods and bush fire that have been experienced by the Kemp family.
I think for myself personally, losing our family home made me reflect on whom and what i value. Material possessions have become far more insignificant for me since the bush fires and this is one reason why i believe this experience has made our family stronger.
Losing The Dome also showed the tenacity and determination of my parents in re-building a new family home. The local Sussex Inlet community was overwhelmingly supporting to our family in the months and days following the fires. Clothes, food, money, a holiday and many second hand household goods were charitably donated to our family and greatly assisted our family in living over this period. Our family can not thank our; friends, family and others whom helped us in any small way enough for helping us during this time.

Natural Disasters slideshow:
This slideshow contains images from the fires and floods experienced by the Kemp Family over the last few decades. Living in the bush you being to understand that you cannot really argue with nature in this sense. It is such a beautiful environment living amongst the native Australian bush, but with it comes the realities of human existence within an isolated, naturally evolving environment. In Australia, the reality of bush fires and floods have become a regular occurrence and have even increased in intensity during my lifetime driven my larger scale weather patterns El Nino' and La Nina'. I think human's relationship with nature can be surmised by one (amongst others) saying, 'Never turn your back on the ocean.' The saying surmises this relationship in that, the natural environment can at any moment remind humans of how insignificant they are in comparison to nature itself, as a whole.
